Move Over iPod - There's More to Be Had
Remember when you saw the first MP3 music player? Chances are it was an early iPod, sleek and white and new. While the iPod may be the most remembered of the early mp3 systems, the game has changed significantly. There are many more players on the market today, including offerings from Microsoft and several other companies. The two players of real note, though, are XM Radio and SIRIUS Radio. Both of these satellite giants have tapped into the incredible popularity of portable music players, with some innovative offerings that are on their way to unseating King Apple.
Both companies currently offer portable music devices. Unlike their competition, they will allow you to listen to commercial free XM or SIRIUS radio and your mp3's. Tired of running everything through an incredibly proprietary system? These new breeds might just be what you want. With the ability to work with the radio in your car, access the Internet and music services through Wi-Fi and other great options, these companies are set to make a huge impact.
XM: XM Radio offers a number of different units, from top name companies like Pioneer and Samsung. Each model offers XM radio through the unit, mp3 playback and storage, as well as the ability to work with your car stereo system for music on the go. The Samsung NeXus 50 is also compatible with Napster music service for even more purchase, download and storage options for music. With the in car dock, wireless FM transmission beams directly to your car's radio, with no fuss and no hassle.
SIRIUS: SIRIUS has also hit the market with some great offerings, one of which is the Stiletto 2. Of the systems available, the Stiletto 2 is the only one that offers Wi-Fi access as well as the capability to listen to SIRIUS commercial free music. This handy little unit can also store 100 hours of radio, comes with a removable MicroSD slot for even more storage and the ability to purchase, store and catalog music online.
While both companies have the potential to topple the current reigning champion, it seems to be SIRIUS that is pulling ahead. Their newest offering has the capability to provide all channels, store an amazing amount of recorded music, shows and your own personal music as well. In addition, it can alert you when a can't miss game is on, as well as alert you when the score changes on a game of interest while you are doing something else.
One of the best things about the new SIRIUS Stiletto is the fact that the software is Windows compatible. Plugging it in to your computer and importing/exporting your own music is a cinch, unlike some other systems that could be named. Add to that the full color screen and the ability to rewind and replay up to 60 minutes of recorded radio and you've got a heck of a combination! For sports enthusiasts, the aforementioned GameAlert feature is a necessity, while the Stiletto also gives sports fans the opportunity to store, track and organize games by team.
